Meral Polat presents her second album, MEYDAN , at Tolhuistuin. Meydan means "square" or "meeting place" in Kurdish and Turkish—a space where voices converge and change becomes possible. The music is an energetic blend of Kurdish-Alevi traditions, blues, Afrobeat, and psychedelic rock, with lyrics full of emotion, rhythm, and connection.

In 2022, Meral Polat released her debut album, "Ez Ki Me," as a singer under the Meral Polat Trio. "Ez Ki Me" translates to "Who Am I." The album was an exploration of the singer's Alevi Kurdish roots. Meral incorporated numerous poems by her late father, Adi Ihsan Polat, into her lyrics. The album received rave reviews and was nominated for a Music Award by Songlines, among others.

On her new album, MEYDAN, Meral primarily lets her own voice be heard—the voice of a woman exercising the right to live on her own terms, free from the oppressive interference of patriarchy. The album celebrates female power, inspired by the philosophy of "JIN, JIYAN, AZADI" (WOMAN, LIFE, FREEDOM), a phrase originating from the Kurdish-led women's movements. JIN, JIYAN, AZADI symbolizes resistance to oppression and the fight for women's rights.

Meydan is about love and resilience – a call to open our hearts, connect deeply, and build hope together.
