Creators often talk about their own specific understanding of time in performing arts. What do they mean by that?
Early age exposure shapes the way we experience time. Our immediate surroundings and broader cultural context influence the development of our attention span, getting acquainted with patterns of repetition, variation, density, cyclicity… We focus on some temporal elements, filtering others. But those parameters might evolve later: perception is a life-long construction. How much is determined by heritage? How eager are we to renew it? How can we shape a new experience of time?
During this seminar we’ll have the chance to interact with various composers and artists from this year’s festival programme who challenge our senses with substantially different approaches to the perception of time: Peni Candra Rini, Celia Swart, Olupemi Oludare, Julian Tjon Sack Kie and Talal Fayad.
