She Wants Revenge
Californian cult band is nowhere near out of its gothic phase
It was somewhere deep in the 2000s when Californian DJs Justin Warfield and Adam “12” Bravi traded their turntables for synthesizers, drum machines, and cold, echoing vocals. Inspired by Joy Division, Nine Inch Nails, and Bauhaus, they went in search of their inner goths. Born was She Wants Revenge: the Interpol of the West Coast, combining brooding post-punk with goth stompers that seem to have bounced straight out of the former Madchester.
And no, it wasn't a phase. Well over twenty years after their formation, She Wants Revenge is still very much alive. In fact, streaming numbers are skyrocketing – and hit single Tear You Apart has started a whole new life thanks to the TikTok algorithm. Nowadays, venues are packed with Gen Zers and seasoned goth fanatics, who sing along fraternally to Warfield's bittersweet choruses.
In their career of more than twenty years, the duo toured the entire world and shared the stage with heavyweights such as Echo & The Bunnymen, Depepe Mode, Placebo, and Pixies. But in all those years, they hardly played in the Netherlands. On February 5, they will immerse De Helling in their driving melancholy, so get your ticket quickly and step into the shadows at She Wants Revenge.
