Death, love, God, sex, beauty, fall, and resurrection. These are a few characteristic words to describe Skinflower. The musical style is difficult to define—often heavy, that is certain. Metal and punk (Melvins, Neurosis) alternate with pop noir (Nick Cave, Tindersticks) and new wave (The Cure, Joy Division). As long as it is epic, that is perhaps the best description.
Skinflower is a trio: drummer Eric van de Pas, bassist and vocalist Mark Deuze, and guitarist/vocalist Leon Heuts. After a period in the late 80s, they lost touch for nearly twenty years. Just before the pandemic, the band reunited. Older and matured by the spiritual phases of life, marked by loss, happiness, love, and sorrow, the band embarked on a journey to create new music—and above all: an experience, for what is music other than an existential ritual to celebrate life and keep death at bay for another day? Although the band was originally founded in Eindhoven and the members live scattered across the Netherlands, their current home base is Nijmegen, where Eric single-handedly built Skinflower's studio from the first screw to the last drumhead.
