Protest singer, Pop

Sophie Straat. Extra show. The voice of protesting Netherlands. Dutch singer-songwriter Sophie Straat is a protest singer through and through: in their music, the message always comes first. With cleverly crafted ballads, she holds up a mirror to society and leaves no taboo untouched, tackling racism, abuse of power, sexism, and inequality. In a short time, they became the unmistakable voice of a new generation of protest singers. Sophie’s most powerful weapon is the classic Dutch ballad tradition, yet they are unafraid to look beyond the horizon. With ventures into pop with Tweede Kamer, a collaboration with Goldband, and explorations of punk on the EP Gebroken Spiegels (January 2024). On the upcoming album Wie de fok is Sophie Straat (October 3, 2025), they turn the sharp gaze on a Netherlands ruled by rules, where winners and losers seem predetermined. Live, Sophie leaves no voice unused: thousands of fans have already sung along at Lowlands, Best Kept Secret, and Down the Rabbit Hole. Who would have thought a revolution could sound this catchy?
