Sophie Straat is the frontwoman of the band Sophie Straat – a group, a movement – whose music always prioritizes the message. With cleverly crafted sentimental songs, she sings about social issues and addresses themes such as racism, abuse of power, sexism, and inequality. In a short time, Sophie Straat has become the undisputed queen of a new generation of protest singers.
This coming fall, she'll release a new album: Wie de fak is Sophie Straat , which she'll play in intimate, raw punk venues throughout the Netherlands – including ACU. On the album, she writes about how the Netherlands is overflowing with rules, and how we all already know who the winners and losers are. A new album, a new sound, together against the same damn mess.
The chaotic garage-punk quartet C'est Qui? makes fast, unconventional music with enough groove to get your hips swinging. They're on fire, and their performances are full of dynamism and energy, with a pumping guitar and an equally pumping bass. With determination, they drive their smooth post-punk through your eardrums with a political thud.
