On Wednesday, October 14, Tamikrest will be playing at Patronaat. The Saharan rock band from Mali combines traditional Tamasheq influences with the raw energy of rock and psychedelic trance. Since their formation in 2006, Tamikrest has grown into one of the most important representatives of the modern African rock scene. Their music is rooted in the Tuareg tradition, yet simultaneously urgent and contemporary, with powerful songs that come fully into their own both on record and live.
After touring the globe, the band is known for intense live shows where hypnotic grooves, melody, and rock come together. Tamikrest broke through internationally with albums such as 'Adagh', 'Toumastin', and 'Chatma', which was awarded a Songlines Award for Best Album of the Year in 2013. With later releases like 'Kidal' and 'Tamotait', the band solidified its position within the international rock and world music scene, performing at leading festivals and venues in Europe, Africa, Asia, and America.
