The four friends from The Lilacs from Wigan show how quickly things can change. What started as a local band has quickly grown into a British sensation. In November 2025, they completely sold out the prestigious Manchester Academy 1 with their infectious indie rock.
Singer Ollie Anglesea and guitarist Sam Birchall formed the foundation of the group, which was completed in October 2018 with drummer Dave Gomersall and bassist Matt Johnson. The band name is a tribute to the Lilac Centre, the place where Birchall's mother was treated for cancer. With millions of streams and airplay on stations like BBC Radio 1 and Radio X, the band has become an integral part of the current indie scene. Their debut single 'Vicarage Road' is still considered an anthem that set the tone for their rise.
