What is The Thing? Not just a New York band, but also a mentality: a return to the roots of rock & roll, garage bands between family minibuses, tape machines, and live recordings. Their self-titled third album makes this clear: it's a rough suite that nods to The Kinks and The White Stripes, and sounds like old New York getting new life. The members met at school and shared diverse backgrounds: Acord grew up with Led Zeppelin and Grand Funk Railroad, Carter was a Beatles fan, Bradley an aspiring producer with a basement studio and a love for psych rock. Jazz drummer Lucas Ebeling joined in 2022, after which the band played more than 300 shows worldwide.
