The trio Wombo from Louisville gives post-punk a dreamy and idiosyncratic twist. They stretch traditional song structures into something elusive and ominous. Their music breathes a smoldering darkness, where unexpected riffs and melodies come together that feel like vague, old acquaintances. The hooks are angular and surprising but can suddenly cut through—just like the vocals, which effortlessly shift between bright and light-footed, and haunting and distorted.

With their fourth album “Danger in Fives” on the horizon, the band sounds creatively reborn. Yet their sound remains rooted in a fragile balance between chaos and melancholy. Wombo embraces ambiguity in their music: sometimes soft and tender, sometimes sharp and restless, but always energetic, dynamic, and unmistakably their own.
