At dB's, we like to honor old heroes and the Californian Yawning Man certainly belongs in the canon of contemporary rock. Founded in 1986 and one of the pioneers of the Palm Desert Scene, they brought their garage sound to the desert during the so-called generator parties. Their music had a great influence on living legends such as John Garcia, Josh Homme, and Brant Bjork, who later formed the legendary stoner rock band Kyuss. While their more commercial contemporaries leaned on heavy riffs and hardcore punk, the cult band Yawning Man stirred significantly in a melting pot of styles; from psychedelic to folk, jazz, hard rock, prog, and world music. The latest album Long Walk of the Navajo, released in 2023, shows that Yawning Man has not lost its musical significance. A gem of a band for *those in the know*.

Kyuss founder Brant Bjork perhaps describes Yawning Man best from his own experience: “It was very drugged, very stone-y, it was very mystical. Everyone’s just tripping, and they’re just playing away, for hours. Oh, they’re the GREATEST band I’ve ever seen.
