Jazz, Orchestra

Yuri Honing’s Peace Orchestra was founded in response to troubling times; after the pandemic, the saxophonist felt it was time for a new sound that inspires and connects. With a cross-section of different generations of top musicians from diverse backgrounds, the Peace Orchestra produces a hopeful sound. The long-awaited first album will be released on September 26 and presents a musical universe drawing from electronic, pop, and rock traditions combined with Sufi and jazz. Saxophonist Yuri Honing is one of the Netherlands' most innovative jazz musicians, having made his mark both nationally and internationally with his fantastic playing. Honing comes from a musical family and broke through internationally in 1996 with the album 'Star Tracks', where he interpreted pieces from pop acts such as ABBA and The Police. It was the start of a journey across stages around the world. Honing is not only a gifted saxophonist but also makes a difference as a composer. He created a duo album with Misha Mengelberg, recorded the album 'Seven' in 2001 with Paul Bley, Gary Peacock, and Paul Motian, and worked with composer and arranger Vince Mendoza for his 'Symphonic' album. Honing won the Edison award three times and was awarded the Boy Edgar prize in 2012.
