Chanpan started out on the streets of New York’s Chinatown, playing to raise money for their first recordings. Singer Grace Dumdaw and twin brothers Lance and Matthew Tran create alternative pop in which dreamy vocals blend with fast breakbeats. On ‘endlessly’, you can hear just how seamlessly this works, with light pop melodies over rattling drums. Anyone who enjoys listening to PinkPantheress will quickly feel at home here.
On the 2026 EP ‘autogratis’, the guitars take centre stage. ‘Jesus in China (Overflow)’ has the swagger of early 2000s pop-rock, whilst ‘Driving Away’ surges forward on drum-’n-bass rhythms. The three draw on their different musical tastes and always let each other add something to a track. As a result, a song that starts out as indie pop can end up with a heavy dance break within a few minutes.
