Starting out as a DJ and producer, Fin Greenall founded the band Fink in 2006. Since then, the singer-songwriter has been touring the world, and he returns with his band on Wednesday, November 4, with his new album. 'The City Is Coming to Erase It All' is Fink's ninth studio album, following 'Beauty In Your Wake' from 2024. The album was recorded in Zennor, Cornwall, with a strict, era-oriented approach. The band envisioned what a record like Michael Chapman's would look like, right down to the guitar strings. Grammy-winning producer Sam Okell guided the process: "If it didn't exist in 1974, you can't use it."
But this is nustalgia, not nostalgia. "I want something new, but with the same ethos," explains singer Fin Greenall. There is a parallel between the restless 18-year-olds Fink once were and the older, family-oriented men they are now. Touring remains both an urge and a pleasure. "The need to play your new material is so overwhelming that it surpasses all comfort and trinkets."
'The City Is Coming to Erase It All' is a product of this urge for discovery and the veneration of the album as a form, as we had it in 1974. The album cover reflects the content, the first track is the greeting, the instrumental closer the conclusion. It is a story. It is a record for people who, like the makers, are curious. People who happily brave a bit of cold for the music, who light a crackling fire at home, who sit with these songs until they are ready to chase their own blue sky.
