Polish pianist and composer Hania Derej (2005) explores a combination of electronic jazz and neoclassical influences with her trio. Together with bassist Mateusz Szewczyk and drummer Gniewomir Tomczyk, she switches between intense outbursts, ostinato patterns, and lyrical melodies. The compositions are autobiographical and deal with doubts, highlights, and the hectic pace of a young musician's life.
Derej studies composition and jazz arrangement at the Amsterdam Conservatory and symphonic conducting in Krakow. She won the double Grand Prix at the Ladies' Jazz Festival 2025 in Gdynia and has performed at various jazz festivals throughout Europe. Her debut album will be released two months before her show at TivoliVredenburg on the Dutch label ZenneZ Records.
