Kazdoura is the musical project of Syrian singer Leen Hamo and Lebanese multi-instrumentalist John Abou Chacra. Their name refers to the Levantine Arabic word for ‘a stroll’ and matches a sound that is constantly exploring new grounds. The Toronto-based duo effortlessly blends modern and traditional Arabic music with psychedelia, funk and soul. As a result, their music sounds both nostalgic and futuristic: familiar melodies are given a modern and dreamy depth, whilst Leen Hamo’s graceful vocals rise above the warm and dreamy arrangements.
With their debut album ‘Ghoyoum’, Kazdoura attracted international attention and the duo won a JUNO Award for Global Music Album of the Year. Following performances in Canada, the United Kingdom and Egypt, amongst other places, Kazdoura are now working on a second album in which their groundbreaking sound takes further shape.
