She is called The African Queen of Bass. He is one of the bigger jazz drummers in the Netherlands. Together, Manou Gallo and Lucas van Merwijk share the stage for music that - how could it be otherwise - is a rhythmic spectacle. Gallo grew up in Ivory Coast and plays her bass guitar as if it were a percussion instrument. She broke through worldwide with Zap Mama and shared the studio with, among others, Bootsy Collins and Manu Dibango. Drummer Lucas van Merwijk, in turn, has been moving between European Latin, jazz, and world music for decades and has repeatedly won the title of Best Jazz Drummer and Best Fusion Drummer in the Benelux. Together, Gallo and Van Merwijk previously toured with Van Merwijk's Music Machine through Canada, Africa, and Europe. Now they intertwine West African groove, funk, and jazz with bass, drums, percussion, vocals, guitar, kalimba, and electronics into one irresistibly swinging sound.
