Sarangi guru Ustad Sabir Khan, hailing from the centuries-old Sikar Gharana family of court musicians in Rajasthan, shares his rich musical heritage with the ensemble. His father, the legendary Sultan Khan, worked with greats such as George Harrison and Madonna and left a lasting mark on both classical music and Bollywood.
Trombonist and composer Arjan Linker, a former winner of the NBE composition competition, has since been accepted as a shishya (student) into the musical lineage of Ustad Sabir Khan. The latter understands like no other the art of taking his audience into a musical universe where listening and connecting are more important than knowing.
The NBE immerses itself in this expressive, improvisation-driven music, in which spectacular, playful Bollywood music is also featured.
