Real Farmer + The Klittens DOUBLE BILL Although England is often seen as the birthplace of post-punk, you no longer have to look there alone to find the genre’s strongest and most exciting variations. The Netherlands has been putting its own distinctive spin on post-punk for years, proving that the Dutch scene can easily compete with its English-speaking counterparts. On Sunday, December 27, this will once again become clear with a double bill featuring Real Farmer and The Klittens at Rotown. Groningen-based Real Farmer takes the traditional 80s post-punk sound and reshapes it into something entirely their own, with detours into proto-punk and garage rock along the way. Their well-received second album, Two Wrongs Don’t Make A Right, was released in May and shows that the band is far from done exploring and expanding their sound. The Klittens, hailing from The Hague and Amsterdam, are equally unafraid to step outside the boundaries of the genre. The band can best be described as a post-punk group that suddenly decided to start writing irresistibly catchy pop songs. But don’t worry: the dry, percussive guitars are never far away and can easily come charging back around the corner. Their brand-new singles Have a Heart and Taxi are a perfect example of that balance.
