Vienna-based, Iranian composer, sound artist and engineer Rojin Sharafi combines acoustic, electro-acoustic and electronic approaches. Influences from folk, ambient, noise, metal and contemporary music are evident in her transdisciplinary practice, as are references to literature, performance and video art. Sharafi uses various drum machines, analogue and self-programmed instruments to create her very own textures.
At Gaudeamus Festival 2026, she presents her new project Sinthome’s Scenery with an exciting ensemble, featuring musicians from Vienna, Taiwan, Burkina Faso and Paris, including singer Omid Darvish and Aho Ssan, also featured last year at Gaudeamus Festival with his project Ego Death. “How can you rethink folk music for the future or for the present from a different place?” was the core question of Sinthome’s Scenery, which not only deals with musical traditions but also with the social function of folk music: community building and the coming together of people.
