For eighty years, Gaudeamus has provided a platform for young creators and experiments in sound and music performance. But what can we do now with that long, fascinating history? For Archive Dive, part of the concert series Terrapolis, three young producers from Stranded FM dive into the Gaudeamus archive. Using old recordings, musical fragments, and unexpected finds as a starting point, tala drum corps, Omit Iwik, and Pier Woudstra create new work that explores the boundaries of musical performance. tala drum corps (Tijmen Lohmeijer) works at the intersection of music, DJ culture, and dance. He breathes new life into archive recordings and combines them with his own instruments and sound experiments. Omit Iwik is inspired by sounds that linger and repeatedly pop up in your head. For her composition, she draws on Stravinsky's The Firebird, a work she has had a special connection with since her teenage years. Pier Woudstra, a performing artist and instrument builder, combines his fascination for Balkan folk music and the fast-paced aesthetics of internet music with flute, accordion, and self-built electronics.
