MELANCHOLIC NUMBERS AT THE INTERSECTION OF SILENCE, AMBIENT AND FOLK
The Chicago-based songwriter Gia Margaret moves between ambient and folk, with minimalistic and experimental influences. She debuted in 2019 with 'There's Always A Glimmer', but then experienced vocal problems. During that period she developed other musical languages and made the instrumental ambient record 'Mia Gargaret'.
Now that her physical voice has recovered and her artistic voice has been sharpened, she completes the circle and returns this year with 'Singing': her first vocal album since 2019. Supported by soft piano lines, she brings melancholic songs that gently rock the listener back and forth, occasionally breaking that calm with heart-wrenching lyrics and richer instrumentation. Throughout the album she applies the lessons of speechlessness to her own artistic voice and she takes that with her to the Jacobikerk this late summer.
