TRADITIONAL IRISH FOLK BY A RADICALLY CONTEMPORARY LENS
Madra Salach holds the Irish folk tradition close to its heart, but never lets it take over. The sextet from Dublin emerged from the Northside indie scene, where the band members found each other during spontaneous sessions in Dublin pubs. From a shared love for old ballads, the group developed its own sound that is simultaneously familiar and surprisingly modern.
As part of Ireland's growing experimental folk scene, they redefine what traditional music can be by combining centuries-old folk with synthesizers, electronics, and post-rock textures. The songs sound as if they could have come from any random decade of the past century, yet are unmistakably focused on the future.
